I’m a self-taught artist from Savannah, Georgia, and I’ve practiced visual arts most of my life. Growing up among moss-draped oaks, historic squares, and tidal rivers shaped how I see light, color, and story. Today I work primarily in acrylics, capturing the landscapes, busy streets, and everyday life of Savannah — from fishermen and crabbers on the river to neighbors walking down a shaded lane. My work aims to bring the feeling of place and memory to canvas.
My style and subjects
My paintings focus on the places and people that make Savannah unique. I paint coastal marshes and river scenes, vibrant street corners, portraits of men and women at work, and quiet moments of everyday life like crabbing and fishing along the shore. Working in acrylics gives me the versatility to build texture, layer strong color, and respond quickly to the reference photos and memories that inspire each piece. Whether it’s a sweeping landscape or an intimate street scene, my art emphasizes mood, light, and the lived-in details that tell a story.
How I create — camera to canvas (and sometimes from memory)
Photography is central to my process. I often explore Savannah with my camera, hunting for composition, light, and candid moments. Back in the studio I use those photographs as the foundation for a painting, translating what I captured into brushstrokes, altered color palettes, and simplified forms that emphasize emotion over exact replication. Some works are painted directly from memory — impressions of a childhood moment, a day on the river, or a scene that left a lasting impression. These memory-based paintings allow me to blend observation and imagination to create pieces that feel both familiar and fresh.
Why acrylics
Acrylic paint is my preferred medium because it dries quickly, supports bold color, and allows for layered textures. That speed and flexibility help me capture fleeting light and weather conditions common to coastal Georgia. I use glazing, scumbling, and palette-knife techniques to achieve depth, atmosphere, and movement in each original acrylic painting.
Originals and prints
My body of work includes one-of-a-kind original acrylic paintings and a selection of limited-edition prints. Originals are studio-signed and ready to ship or hang, while prints offer an accessible way to bring the beautiful landscapes and street scenes into your home.
